Visual Fields

The “Goldman’s campimeter” and the “computerized campimeter” are the most modern and sensitive equipment tools used to measure the combined function between the retina, optic nerve and the visual intracranial pathway. The clinical use of these devices is to detect or monitor the visual field loss due to trauma, inflammatory areas in the sensory retina.

 What this test is about:

This test is also considered an indispensable study in patients with Glaucoma because the loss of the peripheral visual field is one of the main manifestations of this disease causing irreversible blindness.
The test involves the application of light stimuli that will quantify the damage of the optical nerve, it does not require pupil dilation and takes 20 minutes. The result is given once the test is completed but its interpretation depends on the Ophthalmologist.
